How to Prep Your Engineering Team for a Diligence Interview
Diligence interviews are not exams. They are consistency checks, and over-coaching is the fastest way to fail one.
Reviewers interview engineers to test whether the picture presented by management matches the experience of the people doing the work. Rehearsed answers are obvious and damaging.
Useful preparation
- Explain the purpose and format so nobody is ambushed
- Confirm what is confidential and what may be discussed freely
- Tell the team that known problems are already disclosed
- Ask for accuracy rather than optimism
An engineer who describes a known weakness and the plan for it strengthens the seller's position. An engineer who has been told to say everything is fine does the opposite.
